Jidong County, belonging to Jixi City, Heilongjiang Province, was founded in 1965 and named after the administrative area located east of Jiguan Mountain. Jidong County is connected with Mishan City in the east, bordering with Qitaihe City and Boli County in the north, neighboring with Linkou County, Muleng City and three districts of Jixi City in the west, and bordering with Russia in the south. Jidong County is characterized by seven mountains and half water and two and a half fields, is located in the middle latitude, is a continental climate, with obvious monsoon climate characteristics. Jidong County has a total area of 3,243 square kilometers, with 8 towns and 3 townships under its jurisdiction, 123 administrative villages and a total population of 330,000 (2012). In 2009, the county's gross domestic product (GDP) amounted to 6.22 billion yuan, an increase of 12% year-on-year. Within the territory of Jidong County, there are national triple-A nature reserves such as Hadar River Scenic Spot and Phoenix Mountain.
