Pingdingshan City, known as "Eagle City", Henan Province, prefecture-level city, the terrain of the west high and low east, was a trapezoidal spread, in the warm temperate zone and the northern subtropical climate of the intertwined edge of the region, with a total area of 7,882 square kilometers. As of October 2022, the city has 4 districts, 4 counties and 2 county-level cities under its jurisdiction. As of the end of 2022, Pingdingshan had a resident population of 4.961 million.
Pingdingshan was founded as a city in 1957. Pingdingshan is both a resource-based industrial city, China's excellent tourist city, national garden city, national forest city, national health city and provincial civilized city, as well as the Chinese Opera City, Chinese Calligraphy City, the hometown of Guanyin culture, the hometown of Ru Kiln ceramic art and the base of Tangjun in China. It is an important energy and heavy industry base in the Central Plains Economic Zone and the center city of central Henan. Pingdingshan has two national wetland parks, Bailuzhou and Baiguohu. Yaoshan-Zhongyuan Big Buddha Scenic Spot is a national 5A-level tourist scenic spot with a hot spring belt stretching for 100 miles and the world's tallest bronze standing Buddha Zhongyuan Big Buddha, and Yaoshan Geopark is a national geopark. Pingdingshan Museum, Erlang Mountain, Dengtai Shelf, Painted Eyebrows Valley, Sanshu Garden, Yaoshan Grand Canyon Rafting and Xiangshan Temple are national 4A-level tourist attractions.
In 2023, the gross regional product of Pingdingshan City was 272.007 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 3.2%.
