Wugang City is a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Henan Province, administered by Pingdingshan City. Located in the central part of Henan Province, it is close to Xiping County and Suiping County of Zhumadian City in the east, Uyang County in the south, Fangcheng County of Nanyang City and Ye County of Pingdingshan City in the west, and Daiyang County of Luohe City in the north, with a total area of 630.4 square kilometers. The surface morphology of Wugang city is complex, basically can be divided into 3 kinds of plains, hilly and mountainous areas, with continental monsoon climate, and the rivers in the territory belong to Huaihe River Basin.In 2021, the resident population of Wugang city reached 300,800 people.
During the Zhou Dynasty, it was the fiefdom of the descendants of the legendary ancient emperor, the Pakhuang clan, the Pakziguo. It was annexed by Chu in the late Spring and Autumn Period. On December 17, 1947, the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Chen Xie Corps liberated Maoyang, and on September 30, 1977, the Maoyang Industrial District Office was abolished. In November of the same year, Maigang District of Pingdingshan City was established.In September 1990, approved by the State Council, Maigang District was abolished and Maigang City was established. As of October 2022, Daugang City has 7 streets, 4 towns and 3 townships under the jurisdiction of Daugang City, and the municipal people's government is stationed in the Party and Government Comprehensive Building of the YaKou Administrative New District.
In 2021, the gross domestic product (GDP) of Maigang City amounted to 15,885,590,000 yuan, an increase of 10.4% over the previous year at comparable prices.
