Zhangjiakou City, also known as "Zhang Yuan", "Wucheng", Hebei Province, prefecture-level city, type II large cities, under the jurisdiction of 6 districts and 10 counties. Located in northwestern Hebei Province, east of Hebei Province, Chengde City, southeast of Beijing, south of Baoding City, Hebei Province, west and southwest of the border with Shanxi Province, north and northwest of the border with Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, the terrain is high in the northwest and low in the southeast, belonging to the temperate continental monsoon climate. By the end of 2022, the city had a total area of 36,357 square kilometers and a resident population of 4,074,600.
In 1928, Chahar Province was established, with Zhangjiakou as its capital, and in 1952, it was transferred to Hebei Province. Zhangjiakou is the origin of the "Zhangku Avenue", the former capital of Chahar Province, a member of the World League of Olympic Cities, one of the hosts of the 2022 Winter Olympics, and is known as the "Davos" of the East. Zhangjiakou is the intersection of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei (Bohai Rim) Economic Circle and the Hebei-Jinjiang-Mongolia (Outer Great Wall) Economic Circle. In the first year of Xuantong (1909), the Beijing-Zhangzhou Railway, the first railroad designed and built by the Chinese themselves, was born here, and on July 31, 2015, Zhangjiakou was awarded the right to host the 2022 Winter Olympics, and in the same year, it was established as a national renewable energy demonstration zone. It has been selected as one of China's top summer vacation cities in 2020. Chongli District, Zhangjiakou City, has built seven major ski resorts such as Yunding, Taiwai, Wanlong, etc., which has become China's largest skiing sports gathering area, and set up a national-level Chongli ice and snow tourism resort area in 2020, and the International Olympic Committee named the "Zhangjiakou Chongli Olympic Park" in 2021, and set up the Beijing-Zhangzhou Sports and Cultural Tourism Belt in the same year.
In 2023, Zhangjiakou will realize a GDP of 184.27 billion yuan, an increase of 5.1% over the previous year at constant prices.
