Qinhuangdao City, abbreviated as "Qin", also known as Port City, is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Hebei Province, a Type II large city, a famous coastal tourism, leisure and vacation resort in China as approved by the State Council, and an important port city in the Bohai Rim region. As of 2022, Qinhuangdao has four districts and three counties under its jurisdiction, with a land area of 7,802 square kilometers, a sea area of 1,805 square kilometers, a resident population of 3,098,100 people, an urban population of 2,028,300 people, and an urbanization rate of 65.47%.
Qinhuangdao City is located in North China, northeast of Hebei Province, south of the Bohai Sea, north of Yanshan, east of Liaoning, west of Beijing and Tianjin, is located in the combination of the two major economic zones of North China and Northeast China, resides in the center of the Bohai Sea Economic Circle, 280 kilometers away from Beijing, 220 kilometers away from Tianjin, is the capital of the Economic Circle of the important functional areas. Qinhuangdao is named after Emperor Qin Shi Huang who visited the island on his eastward tour and sent people to the sea to seek immortality. 5 national railway lines, namely, Jingshan Railway, Beijing-Qin Railway, Daqin Railway, Qin-Shenzhen Railway, Shenshan Railway, Jin-Qin Railway Passenger Dedicated Line, Beijing-Shenzhen Expressway, Hebei Coastal Expressway and Chengqin Expressway, are running through the whole area. Shanhaiguan District is a national historical and cultural city.
Qinhuangdao City is one of the first batch of coastal open cities in China, the earliest independent trading port in China, a national comprehensive transportation hub, and a pilot innovative city in China. It has been awarded the honorary titles of China's Most Beautiful Seaside City, Top Ten Ecological Civilized Cities in China, the Most Livable City in Northern China, China's Best Recreational City, China's Most Caring City, China's Most Happiest City, National Civilized City, National Forest City, and so on.
In 2023, the gross regional product of Qinhuangdao City was 2001.01 billion yuan, an increase of 5.6% over the previous year. The added value of primary industry will be 25.995 billion yuan, an increase of 3.1% over the previous year; the added value of secondary industry will be 64.041 billion yuan, an increase of 5.1%; and the added value of tertiary industry will be 110.065 billion yuan, an increase of 6.5%.
