Beidaihe New District is located in northeastern Hebei Province, bounded by the Dai River to the north, the Luan River to the south, the Coastal Expressway and the Beijing-Harbin Railway to the west, and the Bohai Sea to the east. It is part of Qinhuangdao—one of China’s first coastal open cities and one of the country’s top 20 happiest cities—and lies across the river from Beidaihe, the century-old summer resort. The district covers an area of 425.8 square kilometers,with a coastline of 82 kilometers and a total population of 139,000. Beidaihe New District was established in December 2006 with the approval of the Hebei Provincial People’s Government.
