Tieshangang District, belonging to Beihai City of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, is located on the shore of Beibu Gulf and the eastern part of Beihai City, between latitude 21°27'~21°40'N and longitude 109°19'~109°34'E. The district is across the sea from Hepu County in the east, borders Yinhai District in the west, is adjacent to the Beibu Gulf in the south, and is connected with Hepu County in the north. The district is a coastal tableland plain with a flat terrain and monsoon oceanic climate with a pleasant climate and an annual average temperature of 22.6°C. It covers a total area of 394 square kilometers.In 2022, Tieshangang District had a resident population of 148,300, with Han Chinese predominantly living there, and 11 ethnic minorities such as Zhuang, Yao, Maonan, Mulao, and so on living in mixed communities. As of June 2023, Tieshangang District has three towns under its jurisdiction. The district government is located in Nankang Town.
Tieshangang District was established in 1994. Tieshangang District is the origin of "Nanzhu" (South Pearl), where the story of "The Return of the Pearl to Hepu" (珠還合浦), which has been passed down for more than 2,000 years, took place. Historically, Tieshan Harbor is also one of the starting ports of China's "Maritime Silk Road"; it is the main position of Beihai City's industrial construction and one of the three major industrial zones in Guangxi's Beibu Gulf Economic Zone.
In 2022, the GDP of Tieshangang District will be 53.138 billion yuan, an increase of 7.8% over the previous year at comparable prices. Among them, the added value of primary industry is 3.479 billion yuan, an increase of 3.3%; the added value of secondary industry is 45.877 billion yuan, an increase of 8.7%; the added value of tertiary industry is 3.782 billion yuan, an increase of 4.6%. The added value of primary, secondary and tertiary industries accounted for 6.5%, 86.3% and 7.2% of the region's GDP respectively, contributing 3.8%, 90.4% and 5.8% to the economic growth respectively. Calculated on the basis of resident population, the annual per capita GDP was RMB 359,284, an increase of 7.0% over the previous year.
