Yumen City, county-level city under the jurisdiction of Gansu Province, administered by Jiuquan City, is located in northwestern Gansu Province, east of Jiuquan City, and in the western part of the Hexi Corridor, with a continental mesothermal arid climate, adjoining five counties (municipalities) and covering a total area of 13,500 square kilometers. As of October 2022, Yumen City has jurisdiction over 1 street, 10 towns, 2 ethnic townships, and another 3 township-level units. As of 2022, Yumen had a resident population of 137,000 people.
Because of the ancient "Jade Road" from the western region and the east of the field to lose the north and south of the two channels are through the Yumen boundary, because there was no unified common currency, the top of the jade to pay taxes, and over time the accumulation of jade into the door, "Yumen" and thus the name. In the 16th year of the Republic of China (1927), Yumen County was re-established; in October 1955, the State Council approved the establishment of Yumen City (a provincial municipality); in November 1958, the State Council approved the administrative establishment of Yumen County to be incorporated into Yumen City (a prefecture); in December 1961, it was transformed into a county-level city; in 2002, Yumen City was placed in charge of the city of Jiuquan; and in September 2006, the government of Yumen City was relocated to the new downtown area as a whole.
The main attractions of Yumen City include Wang Jinxi's Residence Memorial Hall, Chijin Gorge Water Conservancy Scenic Area, and Yumen Oilfield Red Tourism Scenic Spot.On September 8, 2021, Yumen City was selected as the "Pilot List of Distributed Photovoltaic Development on Roofs of Whole Counties (Municipalities and Districts)".In June, 2022, Yumen City was selected as the "Pilot List of National Youth In October 2023, Yumen City was selected as one of the "Third Batch of National Agricultural Product Quality Safety Counties (Cities)".
In 2023, Yumen's GDP was 26.17 billion yuan, an increase of 9.9% over the previous year at constant prices.
