Jinping District, belongs to Shantou City, Guangdong Province. It is the center of Shantou City, the political, economic and cultural center of Shantou City, and the seat of the leading organs of the Party, government and military. It is located in the northwestern part of Shantou City, east of Longhu District, north and northwest of Chaoan District and Rongcheng District, south of Shantou Port and Niu Tianyang, southwest of Chaoyang District, with a total area of 140.05 square kilometers. As of June 2023, Jinping District has a total of 12 streets.In 2022, Jinping District had a household population of 713,100 and a resident population of 774,400 people.
Jinping District, the coastline is 63.8 kilometers long. It is the starting point of Shantou's modern port, the birthplace of "100 years of commercial port", the practice of China's modern garden city, and has always been an important transportation hub, import and export ports and distribution of commodities in eastern Guangdong, Gannan, and southwestern Fujian, and has been known as "the key to South China, the gateway to the east of the Ling Dynasty". In 1921, Shantou Municipal Office was established, which belonged to Shantou City and Chenghai County, and in 1974, all of them belonged to Shantou City, and in 2003, Jinping District was established.
