Raoping County, a county under the jurisdiction of Chaozhou City, Guangdong Province, is located in the eastern part of Chaozhou City, bordering Zhao'an County and Pinghe County of Fujian Province in the northeast; bordering on the South China Sea in the south and Nan'ao County of Shantou City across the sea; bordering on Chao'an District, Xiangqiao District, and Chenghai District of Shantou City in the southwest; and bordering on Tai Po County in the north. The total area of the jurisdiction is 2,227 square kilometers, of which 1,694 square kilometers are land area and 533 square kilometers are sea area. It is located between Shantou and Xiamen Special Economic Zones, and is the intersection of the West Coast Economic Zone and the Pearl River Delta. According to the seventh population census, as of 00:00 on November 1, 2020, Raoping County had a resident population of 817,442. In 2021, Raoping County had 21 towns under its jurisdiction. The county people's government is located at No. 1, Plaza East Road, Raoping County.
In the 33rd year of Qin Shi Huangdi (214 BC), Qin sent troops to pacify South Vietnam and guard the Five Ridges. Three counties, Guilin, Xiang County and Nanhai County, were set up. The territory of Rao Ping belonged to Nanhai County. In the 44th year of Jiajing (1565), Qiu Xi Du of Huai De Township was assigned to Haiyang County, and Su Wan Du was assigned to Chenghai County. During the Republic of China period (1912 to September 1949), the administrative division of the eastern part of Guangdong Province was renamed nine times, and Rao Ping belonged to it along with the renaming of the administrative division of the eastern part of Guangdong Province.On December 7, 1991, it came under the jurisdiction of Chaozhou City.On March 2, 2016, Raooping County was named on the list of the pilot of the Guangdong Province's direct-administered county financial reform.On May 29, 2020, Raooping County was named on the list of the county's new-type townships and cities as a model for new-type townships and urbanization construction. In December 2020, Raoping County was awarded the honorary title of "Guangdong Province Model City (County) of Double-Protection", and in July 2022, Raoping County was selected as a provincial pilot county of Guangdong Province for the project of "Internet+" Agricultural Products Moving out of Villages and into Cities.
