Bao'an District, a municipal district of Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, is located in northwestern Shenzhen, with a total area of 397 square kilometers, bordering Guangming and Longhua districts to the east and Nanshan District to the south; Zhongshan City across the mouth of the Pearl River to the west; and Dongguan City to the north. As of 2023, there are 10 streets under the jurisdiction of the district, with a total of 124 community workstations and 140 community neighborhood committees. The People's Government of the district is located at No. 1, Chuangye 1st Road. As of the end of 2022, the resident population of the district was 4,545,300, an increase of 62,400 or 1.4% from the end of the previous year.
Bao'an, because the county has Bao Mountain (now in Dongguan City) in the north of the county, implying the meaning of "getting treasure and peace", hence the name. With a history of more than 1,680 years, it is known as the source of Hong Kong and Shenzhen culture. In the Eastern Jin Dynasty, Bao'an County was established. In Tang Dynasty, Baoan County was renamed Dongguan County. In 1979, Bao'an County was changed to Shenzhen City, and in 1980, the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone was established.In 1992, Bao'an County was split and Bao'an and Longgang Districts were established.In 2016, Longhua District was established by analyzing Bao'an District.In 2018, Guangming District was established by analyzing Bao'an District.Bao'an is located in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater China Region, which is the largest city in China. Bao'an is in the geographical center of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Greater Bay Area, and is the industrial powerhouse of Shenzhen City, with a well-developed three-dimensional transportation network by sea, land, air and rail, and Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport is located in the area, which is China's first modernized international air port realizing sea-land-air intermodal transportation. Da Chan Bay Port has opened 16 international routes, with an annual throughput of 1.28 million TEUs.
In 2022, Bao'an District will realize a regional GDP of 470.161 billion yuan, a per capita disposable income of 66,586.55 yuan, and an annual general public budget revenue of 29.918 billion yuan.
