Heyuan City, prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Guangdong Province, also known as "Crouch City", is located in the northeastern part of Guangdong Province, located in the middle and upper reaches of the Dongjiang River, the upper reaches of the Hanjiang River and the upper reaches of the Beijiang River, east of Meizhou City, south of Huizhou City, west of Shaoguan City, north of Ganzhou City, Jiangxi Province; belongs to the southern subtropical monsoon climate, mild climate, rainfall; the city's total area of 15654 square kilometers, under the jurisdiction of 1 district, 5 counties. The city has a total area of 15,654 square kilometers, with one district and five counties under its jurisdiction. As of the end of 2022, Heyuan City has a resident population of 2,841,700, with a resident urbanization rate of 50.25%.
Heyuan City belonged to Chu during the Warring States period, and was part of the ancient Longchuan County under the jurisdiction of Nanhai County during the Qin, Han, Three Kingdoms and Jin periods. In the first year of Hongwu of Ming Dynasty (1368), Huizhou Road was changed to Fu, and Heyuan was under the jurisdiction of Huizhou Fu. In the fourteenth year of the Republic of China (1925), Heyuan belonged to the Dongjiang Administrative Committee Office, and in January 1988, Heyuan withdrew from the county and set up a prefecture-level city.
Heyuan City is one of the birthplaces of Lingnan culture. Zhao Tuo, the King of South Vietnam, served as the first magistrate of Longchuan County, which is the earliest area for Hakka people to develop Lingnan, one of the earliest places in the country to set up a Soviet government, and the earliest liberated area in Guangdong; at the same time, Heyuan City is also a national garden city, a national sanitary city, a Chinese excellent tourist city, a national model city of double-supporting, and a national ecological protection and construction demonstration area. In the regional development pattern of "one nucleus, one belt, one area" in Guangdong Province, Heyuan City belongs to the ecological functional area; from 2018 to 2020, the good rate of air quality and the quality of water environment of the provincial examination section of surface water ranked first in the province.
In 2023, the gross regional product of Heyuan City was 134.822 billion yuan, with a year-on-year growth of 4.0%. Among them, the added value of the primary industry is 17.263 billion yuan, up 6.2% year-on-year; the added value of the secondary industry is 49.912 billion yuan, up 4.7% year-on-year; and the added value of the tertiary industry is 67.647 billion yuan, up 2.9% year-on-year.
