Minqing County, abbreviated as "Mei", is a county under the jurisdiction of Fuzhou City, located in the eastern part of Fujian Province and the middle and lower reaches of the Minjiang River, with a total area of 1,494 square kilometers, and under the jurisdiction of 11 towns and 5 townships. According to the seventh census, as of May 21, 2021, the resident population of Minqing County was 256,181 people.
The county was established in the first year of Qianhua of Liang in the Five Dynasties (911), and it has produced the first scholar of Fujian in the Song Dynasty (960-1279), Xu General; two brothers, Chen Xiangdao, a physicist, and Chen Yang, a musician, who are also known as Mr. Meixi Er Chen; Bai Yuqan, a poet, painter and calligrapher, and the Five Ancestors of the Southern Sect of Taoism; the patriotic leader of overseas Chinese in the modern times, Huang Naisheng; and the famous contemporary liver and gallbladder expert, an academician at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Wu Mengchao, winner of the National Highest Science and Technology Award, and other celebrities and aspirants.
Minqing County will be the "Top Ten County in Fujian Province for Economic Development" for four consecutive years from 2018 to 2021.
