The Cathedral (Portuguese: Igrejada Sé), also known as the "Temple of the Hopeful" or the "Temple of the Great", is located at No. 1, in front of the Cathedral in the Cathedral District of the Macao Special Administrative Region of China, and was built in 1622. The Cathedral is the main church of the Catholic Diocese of Macao, and since the opening of the city, it has been the custom of the Governor of Macao to hold his inauguration ceremony in the Cathedral. The main body is one-storey, with a sloping roof and a wooden roof frame; the bell tower part is three-storey, with a flat roof, and is designed in a neo-classical style, with a solemn and pure appearance and a clear and simple interior. On July 15, 2005, the Cathedral was inscribed on the World Heritage List as an integral part of the Historic Centre of Macau.
