Dongzhi County, belonging to Chizhou City, Anhui Province, is located in the south of Anhui Province, on the south bank of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, bordering Guiqi District, Shitai County and Qimen County of Huangshan City in the east, neighboring Jingdezhen City, Jiangxi Province and Fuliang County, Poyang County and Pengze County in the south and southwest, and Anqing City and Huaining County and Wangjiang County in the northwestern part of Anhui Province across the river, spanning the plains of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River and the mountainous areas of the south of the Anhui River, with a total area of 3,261 square kilometers. It has a subtropical humid monsoon climate with four distinct seasons and abundant precipitation. As of the end of 2022, Dongzhi County has a resident population of 393,000; under the jurisdiction of 12 towns, 3 townships, and 2 provincial-level development zones; the county government is located in Yaodu Town.
In 1959, Dongliu County and Zhide County merged to form Dongzhi County. County Yao Du Town Wang Village unearthed human fossils and stone tools of ancient human sites (Huarong Cave site), is Homo erectus "Dongzhi man" skull fossil discovery site. Dongzhi County has convenient transportation, Shanghai-Chongqing Expressway, Anjing Expressway, Jiguang Expressway, Dongjiu Expressway, Tongjiu Railway, and the golden waterway of Yangtze River running through the territory. Dongzhi County has a strong humanistic atmosphere, and Zhou Fu, a famous person in modern history, has lived here for generations, and there are Zhou Fu's Receiving Hall and Zhou's Ancestral Hall and other cultural relics, which were selected as "20th Century China's Architectural Heritage" list in 2019. Dongzhi County belongs to the South Anhui International Cultural Tourism Demonstration Zone, the core area, there are many attractions such as Shengjin Lake, Jiu Tian Xian Yu, Longyuan Tourism Resort, Alexandria, Greenfield Ecological Farm, Dongliu Ancient Cultural Zone, Nanxi Ancient Village, Sanjialing and so on.
In 2023, Dongzhi County realized a gross regional product of 26.27 billion yuan, an increase of 7.0% from the previous year at comparable prices. The growth rate was 1.2 and 0.5 percentage points higher than that of the province and the city respectively, ranking first among the three counties and one district in the city. Among them, the primary industry realized added value of 3.63 billion yuan, an increase of 3.9%; the secondary industry added value of 11.18 billion yuan, an increase of 8.3%; the tertiary industry added value of 11.47 billion yuan, an increase of 6.7%.
