Pingyang County, belonging to Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province, is located between latitude 27°21ˊ~27°46ˊN and longitude 120°24ˊ~121°08ˊE. It is situated on the southeast coast of Zhejiang Province, bordering the East China Sea in the east, Cangnan County in the south, Wencheng and Taishun Counties in the west, and Rui'an City in the north, with a total area of 1,051 square kilometers. As of October 2021, Pingyang County has 14 towns and 2 townships under its jurisdiction, and the People's Government of Pingyang County is stationed at No. 10, Xianqian Street, Kunyang Township.At the end of 2022, Pingyang County had a resident population of 866,400 people, with an urbanization rate of 63.8%.
Pingyang County was established in the Western Jin Dynasty (283 AD), with a history of more than 1,700 years. During the period of the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms (914 AD), the name of the county was set as Pingyang until now. Historically, Pingyang has been blessed with a flourishing literary culture and many cultural celebrities, including Huang Gongwang, the author of "Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains", Lin Jingxi, the patriotic poet of the Southern Song Dynasty, Song Jiu, the thinker of the Qing Dynasty, Su Buqing, the contemporary mathematical titan, and Xie Manxun, the centenarian chess champion, etc. Pingyang is an important birthplace of Southern Opera. Pingyang County is an important birthplace and inheritance place of Southern Opera, and is the "Hometown of National Martial Arts", "Hometown of Chinese Chess" and "Hometown of Traditional Drama in Zhejiang Province".
The area of tourism resources in Pingyang County accounts for 3/4 of the total area of the county, and there are the World Biosphere Reserve with the reputation of "Kingdom of Shellfish" and "Immortal Mountain of the Blue Sea", and Nanji Island which is one of the top ten most beautiful islands in China; and there are the three religions of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism, which are all over the county. There is the National Scenic Spot of South Yandang Mountain, which is famous for its "Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism". Pingyang County is a national health county, the hometown of China's horseshoe shoots, China's pet supplies export base, a national export pet food quality and safety demonstration zone, and a national foreign trade transformation and upgrading base.
