Kunming, also known as Spring City, is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Yunnan Province, the capital of the province, a megacity, the center city of the Dianzhong City Cluster, one of the important central cities in the western region of China as approved by the State Council, and an important tourist and trade city in China. As of 2021, the city has 7 districts and 3 counties under the jurisdiction of the city, with 1 county-level city and 3 autonomous counties under the administration of the city, covering a total area of 21,012.54 square kilometers, with a resident population of 8.6 million people and an urbanization rate of 81.1%.
Kunming is located in southwestern China, the central part of the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, between longitude 102°10'-103°40' and latitude 24°23'-26°22', at the intersection of the North-South International Corridor and the third East-West Asia-Europe Continental Bridge starting from Shenzhen, and is the gateway of China's opening up to Southeast Asia and South Asia. It is the gateway to China's opening to Southeast Asia and South Asia, and is located at the intersection of the ASEAN "10+1" Free Trade Area Economic Circle, the Greater Mekong Sub-region Economic Cooperation Circle, and the Pan-Pearl River Delta Regional Economic Cooperation Circle. The China Kunming Import and Export Fair, China International Tourism Fair and China Kunming International Tourism Festival have made Kunming one of the major exhibition cities in China.
Kunming City is a national historical and cultural city, as early as 30,000 years ago there were human beings living and reproducing around the Dianchi Pond; King Haxiang of Chu in the 19th year (278 years ago), the state of Yunnan was established, and the capital was set here; Tang Yongtai first year (765 years ago), the state of Nanzhao to build Tuo Dong City, the beginning of the construction of the city of Kunming; the end of the Ming Dynasty, the regime of the Southern Ming Dynasty Yonglian in the city of Kunming to build the capital. In 2023, the GDP of Kunming will be 786.476 billion yuan, with the growth rate accelerated by 0.3 percentage point compared with that of 2022. The added value of primary industry will be 35.343 billion yuan, up 4.1%; the added value of secondary industry will be 228.188 billion yuan, down 2.3%; the added value of tertiary industry will be 522.945 billion yuan, up 5.9%.
