Zepu County, belonging to Kashgar Region of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, is located in the southwest of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, at the northern foothills of the Kunlun Mountains, at the western edge of the Tarim Basin, between longitude 76°53′~77°29′E and latitude 37°55′~38°19′N, with a continental warm-temperate arid climate, covering a total area of 988 square kilometers.At the end of 2019, Zepu County had a household population of 225,661 people. As of June 2023, Zephyr County has 2 towns and 11 townships, with the county people's government located at 118 Unity West Street, Zephyr County.
Zepu, short for Zelepushan, means "river floating with gold" in Uyghur, and "Guangze Huipu" in Chinese. In the third year of King Shenliang of Zhou (318 years ago), Zephyr was a large village in Shache country in the western region. Qing Kangxi seventeen years (1678), Zephyr attached to the Junggar Department. In the tenth year of the Republic of China (1921), Zephyr County was formally established, and in June 1956, Zephyr County was transferred to the Kashgar region.
Zephyr County is located in the center of the four southern counties of Kashgar region, with Hotan in the south, Kashgar in the north and Shache in the east, and the 315 National Highway and Kashgar Expressway, known as "the most beautiful highway", run through the whole territory. There are national tourist attractions such as Jinhuyang National Forest Park, Wutong Ecological Park, Gulbagh Scenic Spot and Buiruk Tajik Town. There are intangible cultural heritages such as Qiaokang Maxi Zhefu and Milang wood carving.
In 2022, Zephyr County realized a gross regional product of 5.615 billion yuan, an increase of 8%.
