Bachu County, belonging to Kashgar Region of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, is located in the southwestern part of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, at the southern foothills of Tianshan Mountain and the northwestern edge of Tarim Basin. The geographic coordinates lie between 77°22′30″-79°56′15″ East longitude and 38°47′30″-40°17′30″ North latitude, with the terrain tilting from southwest to northeast, and the main geomorphological features are four major categories, namely, deserts, mountains, flood plains and alluvial plains. The total area is 18,900 square kilometers; in 2019, the registered population of Bachu County was 371,514. As of June 2023, Bachu County has 4 towns and 8 townships; the county government is located in Bachu Town.
Bachu County has a documented history of more than 2,700 years, and was an important post on the ancient Silk Road and the birthplace of poplar forests. In the Western Han Dynasty, it belonged to the jurisdiction of Yutou State, in the Three Kingdoms and Northern Wei Dynasty it belonged to the jurisdiction of Guzi State, in the Sui Dynasty it belonged to the jurisdiction of Shule State, in the Tang Dynasty it belonged to the jurisdiction of Yutou State of the Anxi Protectorate, in the Song Dynasty it was returned to Shule, in the Yuan and Ming Dynasties it belonged to the jurisdiction of Bieyue Bali. Qing dynasty qianlong twenty-four years (1759), belongs to the Yarkand office minister jurisdiction. The second year of the Republic of China (1913), the establishment of Bachu County. There are historical relics such as Tang Wangcheng, ancient beacon ruins and Karamdarbaik ancient tombs, and natural landscapes such as golden poplars, desert scenery and plains and lakes. Bachu County is rich in water, soil, light, heat and mineral resources, and the natural poplar forest covers an area of 3.16 million mu. Bachu is the largest cotton reserve in China and an important cotton distribution center in South Xinjiang. There are 314 National Highway Urumqi Red (Qilav) Highway and Bachu-Shache Highway, Bachu-Tumushuke Highway, South Xinjiang Railway and other important transportation routes in the territory of Bachu County, which are transiting through the territory.On January 24, 2020, the People's Government of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region agreed that Bachu County should withdraw from the sequence of poor counties.
In 2023, the gross regional product of Bachu County amounted to 10.701 billion yuan, with a year-on-year growth of 4.5%. Among them, the added value of primary industry is 4.328 billion yuan, up 5% year-on-year, the added value of secondary industry is 2.261 billion yuan, up 3% year-on-year, and the added value of tertiary industry is 4.112 billion yuan, up 2.2% year-on-year.
