Xia County, belonging to Yuncheng City, Shanxi Province, is located in the southwestern tip of Shanxi Province and the western foot of Zhongtiao Mountain, bordering Pinglu County in the south, Wenxi County and Qiaqu County in the north, Yanxi County and Yanhu District in the west, and Mianchi County of Henan Province across the Yellow River in the east, and has six towns and five townships under its jurisdiction, with a total area of 1,352.6 square kilometers. As of October 2022, Xia County has 7 towns and 4 townships under its jurisdiction. As of the end of 2022, Xiaxian had a resident population of 275,312,000.
Xia County, known as Anyi in ancient times, is one of the birthplaces of the Chinese nation, named after the Xia Dynasty, the first dynasty of Chinese slavery society, which built its capital here. Zhongjiao Mountain is located in the east of the county, and Mingjiao Gang stretches across the west of the county. Xia County has a long history, with historical, artistic and scientific value of the ancient cultural and revolutionary sites totaling 69, of which 6 were listed as key cultural relics protection units in Shanxi Province. During the war years, there were 1,258 outstanding sons and daughters who sacrificed their lives for the country. After the liberation, Xiaxian became the first advanced county in North China to produce 100 kilograms of lint per mu; in the 1990s, it had outstanding achievements in water-saving agriculture, and was listed as the National Prime Minister's Fund Water-saving Agricultural Demonstration County.
