Yangpu District is located in the northeastern part of Shanghai's central city, on the northwestern bank of the lower Huangpu River, across the river from Pudong New Area, west of Hongkou District, and north of Baoshan. Yangpu Harbor runs through the district to the north and south, which is how Yangpu got its name. The southern part of the district along the river is the former Shanghai Public Concession East Zone, while the central eastern part of the district is the implementation site of the "Greater Shanghai Project". Yangpu not only has the longest 15.5km platinum riverfront in the city center, but also has a strong economy and the only planned eco-island, Fuxing Island, located in the city. Yangpu District is surrounded by the Jiangwan Wujiaochang, one of Shanghai's four urban sub-centers and one of the top ten commercial centers; the New Jiangwan City, Shanghai's third-generation international community; the Tongji Knowledge Economy Circle, which is rich in production value; the Dalian Road R&D cluster, where the world's top 500 companies are located; and the East Bund. in May 2016, it was established by the State Council as a demonstration base for mass entrepreneurship and innovation. in 2017, Yangpu District was re-confirmed as a national health city (district).
