Rongcheng, a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Shandong Province, administered by Weihai City, is located at the easternmost tip of the Shandong Peninsula, surrounded on three sides by the sea, and is the closest part of mainland China to South Korea; it is bordered by the Yellow Sea to the north, east, and south, and is situated at the eastern end of the Jiaodong low-mountainous and hilly region, with a complex topography and a warm-temperate continental monsoon humid climate, and an area of 1,526 square kilometers. As of February 2023, the city has 12 towns and 10 streets. As of the end of 2022, the city had a resident population of 714,000 people.
As early as the Neolithic Age, there were human settlements in Rongcheng. In the Western Han Dynasty, the county of Buyeo was first established and belonged to Donglai County. According to historical records, Emperor Qin Shi Huang came to Rong twice to build bridges and set up shrines and observe the sea to worship the sun, and Emperor Wu of Han also came to worship the Lord of the Sun. Qing Yongzheng twelve years (1734), Hedong Governor Wang Shijun to "Wendeng vast, very difficult to govern" as the reason, asked to cut the guards to set up the county, the following year in February, the proposal is recognized, Yongzheng to "Shihuang tasted shooting big fish in the Rongcheng mountain, the mountain in the territory of the eup, so the name because of it", then called the newly established county as Rongxian. So called the newly established county for Rongcheng County, the seat of the original Chengshan Weicheng. It has two open ports of Shidao and Longyan, with a well-developed land transportation network, and it takes about 2.5 hours to Qingdao port and airport. There are tourist attractions such as Chengshantou and Chishan. Rongcheng has been selected as one of the first model cities for the construction of social credit system, named as a national sports industry demonstration base, and selected as one of the first innovative counties (cities) in China.
In 2022, Rongcheng's GDP will be 103.06 billion yuan, with a growth rate of 2.8%.
