Weihai City, alias Weihaiwei, prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Shandong Province, is located in East China and the eastern end of Shandong Peninsula, between latitude 36°41′-37°35′N and longitude 121°11′-122°42′E. It has a continental climate of the north-temperate monsoon zone, and the changes of the seasons and monsoon advances and retreats are more obvious, with a total area of 5799.84 square kilometers. As of the end of 2022, the resident population of Weihai City was 2,917,800 people. As of January 2023, Weihai City has two municipal districts and two county-level cities under its jurisdiction, with the municipal government stationed at No. 1 Xinwei Road in Huanjui District.
Weihai City has a long history, and human beings have been living in the territory since the middle of the Neolithic Age. Xia, Shang and Zhou dynasties, the city territory is now the land of the Oriental quality, there are Laiyi settlement. On June 15, 1987, Weihai City was upgraded to a prefecture-level city. Weihai City is the regional center city of Shandong Peninsula, an important marine industry base and coastal tourism city as approved by the State Council. There are 49 national A-level scenic spots in the city, among which there are 2 national AAAAA-level scenic spots (Liugong Island Scenic Spot and Huaxia City Scenic Spot), and there are mountainous scenic spots such as Beishan Mountain, Biblical Mountain, Likou Mountain, Tiezha Mountain and Da Nu Mountain. It is the birthplace of Beiyang Navy, the first modern Chinese navy, the place where the Sino-Japanese War took place, and one of the "Seven Sons" which was occupied by the powers and returned to the motherland after the Sino-Japanese War. It is one of the first batch of open coastal cities in China, the first national sanitary city in China, and the first batch of national agricultural products quality safety city.
In 2022, the gross regional product of Weihai City will be 340.818 billion yuan, an increase of 1.5% over the previous year. The structure of the three industries is 10.4:38.5:51.1.
