Mazu Town belongs to Shifang City, Deyang City, Sichuan Province, China, located in the northwestern part of the Chengdu Plain, connected to Lingjie Town in the north, Sojiao Street and Yuanshi Town in the south, bordering with Nanquan Town and Yunci Town in the west, and Shuangsheng Town in the east, the township government is located at longitude 104°12' east, latitude 31°09' north, and is located 6 kilometers north of Shifang City, the township It covers an area of 23.89 square kilometers, with 2 communities, 7 administrative villages and a total population of 28,739 (2017).
The old name of Mazu Town was Xinglong field and two intersections, and it was set Xinglong Township in 1951, changed to Xinglong Commune in 1958, renamed Two Intersections Commune in 1960, changed to Two Intersections Township in 1983, rebuilt Two Intersections Township in 1988, and renamed Mazu Township in 2005, which is named in honor of the Tang Dynasty Buddhist celebrity, Mazu.
Mazu Town is the hometown of the famous Chinese Buddhist figure Mazu Daoyi, known as "Mazu's hometown", one of the first batch of pilot small towns in Sichuan Province, and one of the ten red-flag townships in Sichuan Province.
On December 11, 2019, the People's Government of Sichuan Province on agreeing to the approval of Deyang City to adjust the administrative division of some townships in five counties (cities and districts), including Jingyang District (Chuanfu Civil Affairs 〔2019〕 No. 15): abolish Shuangsheng Township, and assign its administrative area to the jurisdiction of Mazu Township, and the People's Government of Mazu Township is stationed at No. 8, Group 18, Qinglong Village.
