Shifang City, a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Sichuan Province, administered by Deyang City, is located in the northwestern part of the West Sichuan Plain, with the terrain gradually tilting from north west to south east, bordering Mianzhu City and Jingyang District in the east, Guanghan City in the south, and Pengzhou City in the west, and belonging to the subtropical humid climate zone, with a total area of 821 square kilometers. As of October 2022, the city has 8 towns and 2 streets under its jurisdiction. As of the end of 2021, the city had a resident population of 408,000 people.
Shifang City was formerly known as the Fang Country, hence the name "Shifang", and was established as a county in Qin Dynasty, with a cultural history of more than 5,000 years and a county history of more than 2,300 years. It was once known as the "Immortal Township of Yu" because of the footsteps of Dayu, and the famous hydrologist of the Qin Dynasty, Li Bing, who once ruled over the water in this area and passed away in this place. Shifang is a famous historical and cultural city in Sichuan Province. Shifang is also the hometown of Ma Daoyi, one of the Eight Ancestors of the Southern Zen Buddhism, and the feudal seat of the famous general Yongtuo in the Han Dynasty, which is why Shifang City is also known as Yongcheng. Shifang is an important part of the Chengdu Plain Economic Zone and the Chengdu Economic Circle, with Beijing Avenue leading directly to Chengmian Expressway, Chengde Avenue, and the Chengmian Expressway Duplex running through the whole city. The natural landscape of Shifang City mainly includes Mount Yinghuash and Qingniutuo. Shifang is a key tourism development zone in Sichuan Province, with tourist attractions such as Mount Yinghuash and Longmenshan National Geopark. Shifang has also been awarded the 4th Sichuan Civilized Model City, and has been identified as one of the first innovative counties (cities) by the Ministry of Science and Technology.
In 2023, the city's gross domestic product (GDP) will be 47.09 billion yuan, an increase of 8.1% at comparable prices.
