Weiyuan County belongs to Neijiang City, Sichuan Province, located in the northwest of Neijiang City, in the south-central part of the Sichuan Basin, spanning the latitude of 29°22′-29°47′ north, longitude 104°16′-104°53′ east between. Neighboring Neijiang City Central District in the east, Da'an District and Gongjing District in Zigong City in the south, Rong County in Zigong City in the west, Zizhong County in the north, and Renshou County in Meishan City and Jingyan County in Leshan City in the northwest, the city borders. With a total area of 1,289 square kilometers, it had a total household population of 683,071 at the end of 2022. Weiyuan County is divided into two types of landforms: low mountains and shallow hills, and the "Weiyuan Dome" has 902 square kilometers, covering 180-130 million years of geological history, which is the largest dome geological area in China, and the only Triassic geological outcrop area in Sichuan. It is also the only place in Sichuan where Triassic geology is exposed. The transportation in the area is convenient, with the Chengzilu Expressway running through the north and south, and the Neiwei Rong Expressway running through the east and west.
