Gaoping Town, a town under the jurisdiction of Guanghan City, Deyang City, Sichuan Province, is located in the northwest of Guanghan City, bordering Nanfeng Town in the east, Xinping Town in the southeast, Nanshing Town across the Duck River in the south, Majing Town in Shifang City in the west, Huilan Town in the northwest of the city of Shifang, and Xinglong Town in the northeast. The total area is 51.94 square kilometers. As of the end of 2018, the total household registration population of the former Gaoping Town was 24,309. The former Xigao Town had a total household registration population of 16,980. In 1980, the name was changed to Gaoping Commune.In 1981, the commune was changed to a township.In 1985, the township was changed to a town.On December 11, 2019, the People's Government of Sichuan Province on the consent of Deyang City to adjust the administrative divisions of some townships in five counties (cities and districts), including Jingyang District, approved the reply: to abolish the Xigao Township, and transfer its administrative area to Gaoping Township's jurisdiction.
