Zhongwei City, referred to as "Wei", Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, prefecture-level city, located in west-central Ningxia, the first of the Yellow River front set, located in the Ningxia Plain to the Loess Plateau of the transition zone, is the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and Gansu Province, the junction zone. Located in the geometric center of China's land, guarding the "western gate" of Ningxia, is the throat of the Asia-Europe Continental Bridge and the ancient Silk Road North Road on the important nodes of the city, an important transportation hub in the west. Zhongwei is a strategic corridor for the nation's west-to-east gas transmission, and is known as "China's gas vein". As of the end of 2022, Zhongwei City governs Shapotou District, Zhongning County and Haiyuan County, with a total area of 17,391.3 square kilometers. The People's Government of Zhongwei City is located at No. 5 Zhengtong East Road, Shapotou District. As of the end of 2022, the resident population of Zhongwei City was 1,080,400 people.
In the first year of Yongle of Ming Dynasty (1403), it was reorganized from Right Guard to Zhongwei of Ningxia; in the second year of Yongzheng of Qing Dynasty (1724), it was renamed as Zhongwei County, which belonged to Ningxia Prefecture, and Haiyuan County belonged to Pingliang Prefecture. In 1933, Zhongwei County was divided into Zhongwei and Zhongning counties, and in 2004, the State Council approved the establishment of the prefecture-level Zhongwei City.
As of the end of 2022, Zhongwei City realized a GDP of 56.389 billion yuan, an increase of 3.8% over the previous year at constant prices. Among them, the added value of the primary industry amounted to 7.981 billion yuan, an increase of 4.0%; the added value of the secondary industry amounted to 26.288 billion yuan, an increase of 6.1%; and the added value of the tertiary industry amounted to 22.119 billion yuan, an increase of 1.5%. The added value of the primary industry accounted for 14.2% of the regional GDP, 46.6% of the added value of the secondary industry, and 39.2% of the added value of the tertiary industry. Calculated on the basis of resident population, the per capita GDP was 52,323 yuan, an increase of 3.3% over the previous year.
