Mon State is a state in Myanmar, located in the south of the country. The Salween River divides the state into north and south, with the Gulf of Martaban to the west. It covers an area of 12,155 square kilometers and has a population of about 2 million. The capital city of Mawlamyine is located in the central part of the state, while the northern and southern centers are through and Yai Cheng respectively. The two major cities are connected by rail to the commercial center of Yangon.
