Yingtan City, a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Jiangxi Province, named after "ripples swirling therein and eagles dancing on it", is an important member of the city cluster in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River; it is located in the transition zone of Wuyi Mountain Range to Poyang Lake Plain, with the terrain of the southeast high and northwest low, and belongs to the subtropical wet monsoon mild climate, with a total area of 3,556.7 square kilometers. As of October 2022, the city has 2 districts under its jurisdiction and 1 county-level city in its stead. As of the end of 2023, Yingtan had a resident population of 1,150,900 people.
In July 1983, it was approved to be upgraded to a provincial municipality. Yingtan City in the middle and late Shang Dynasty is an important base for ceramic production in China, the territory of the Hukun high-speed railroad, Yingxia line, Zhejiang-Gan line, Anhui-Gan line and the Hukun high-speed, Jiguang high-speed and 320 National Highway, State Road 206 in the city in a cross-shaped interlacing; territory of the Longhushan is a classical masterpiece "Water Margin" depicted in the opening chapter of the ancient and modern mountains, is a World Natural Heritage site, the world's geopark, the national 5A tourist attractions; JiaoShan ancient ceramic kilns The ancient pottery kiln culture of Jiao Shan, Taoist culture, teleological culture, Guigu Zi culture, ancient Yue culture and red culture are intertwined here. At the same time, Yingtan is a national comprehensive pilot area for new-type urbanization, and has won the "China-Europe Green Smart City Award".
In 2022, Yingtan will realize a GDP of 123.755 billion yuan, an increase of 4.9% over the previous year at comparable prices.
