Dongchang District, belonging to Tonghua City, Jilin Province, is located in the center of the downtown area of Tonghua City, where the CPC Tonghua Municipal Party Committee and the Tonghua Municipal People's Government are located. It is located in the southeastern part of Jilin Province, with geographic coordinates between 125°50′ and 126°07′ east longitude and 41°32′ and 41°49′ north latitude. Located in the depression basin of the Hunjiang River basin in the Changbai Mountains, it has a temperate continental monsoon climate, with four distinct seasons and long, dry and cold winters, and covers an area of 382.6 square kilometers; according to the official website of the People's Government of Dongchang District as of February 2024, Dongchang District has a total population of 340,000 people. As of June 2023, Dongchang District has 9 streets, 1 town, 2 townships, and 1 development zone under its jurisdiction, and the district government is located at 269 Jiangchang Road.
Dongchang District was founded in 1985, within the territory of one of China's top ten archaeological discoveries of ancient human ruins of Wanfa Dialzi, is the birthplace of Shaman culture, is the Qing Dynasty's Dragon Rising place, 6000 years of history accumulated rich human heritage. During the Anti-Japanese War, Yang Jingyu, the national hero, led the First Road Army of the Northeast Anti-Japanese Allied Army to fight here, and the Yang Jingyu Martyrs' Mausoleum is one of the first patriotic education demonstration bases in China; during the period of the Anti-American War against the United States and North Korea, Dongchang was the most important rear base. The first aviation school and engineering school were born in Dongchang, and it is also the hometown of Gao Zhihang, the "Father of Chinese Air Force".
Dongchang District has convenient transportation, with National Highway 303, National Highway 201, and National Highway 202 as the main highway networks connecting the three northeastern provinces and the customs and the sea intersecting here. There are Tongshen high-speed, Dantong high-speed, Tong long highway, Tong irrigation railroad and other highway transit, Tonghua Airport was built and opened to traffic; the territory is rich in natural resources, known as the "green three-dimensional resources treasury" and "Changbai Mountain medicine library" said. 2016 November, Dongchang District, Tonghua City, was awarded the National Environmental Protection Agency (NEPA). In November 2016, Dongchang District of Tonghua City was recognized by the National Tourism Administration as one of the second batch of national demonstration areas for regional tourism.
In 2023, the GDP of Dongchang District will reach 17.002 billion yuan, an increase of 6%. The total industrial output value above scale is expected to realize 3.19 billion yuan, down 3%. Total retail sales of consumer goods is expected to realize 9 billion yuan, an increase of 7%.
