Tonghua, a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Jilin Province, also known as the Mountain City of the North, is located in southeastern Jilin Province, bordered by Baishan City to the east, Benxi City, Fushun City, and Dandong City to the west, and Cijiang Province in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea to the south, across the Yalu River, and connected to Liaoyuan and Jilin City to the north, with more than two-thirds of the area being mountainous, belonging to the Changbai Mountain system, and belonging to the humid climate zone of the mesothermal zone, with a total area of 15,195 square kilometers. As of October 2022, the city has two districts and three counties under its jurisdiction, with two county-level cities in its stead. As of the end of 2022, the city's total household population was 1,516,800.
More than 6,000 years ago, Tonghua City was inhabited by humans on a long-term and stable basis. The city was established in 1877 and named Tonghua. The pseudo-Manchukuo established the pseudo Tonghua Province. In the 30th year of the Republic of China (1941), the city was formally established. Tonghua City is the birthplace of Goguryeo culture, Shaman culture, Goguryeo King City, King's Tomb and Noble Burial is the only one in the northeast region independently declared the success of the World Cultural Heritage; is located in the center of Northeast Asia Economic Circle, the Yalujiang River, the core of the international economic cooperation zone. Tonghua has a glorious revolutionary tradition. During the Anti-Japanese War, Yang Jingyu, the national hero, led the First Road Army of the Resistance League and fought here. During the Liberation War, Tonghua was the main battlefield of the "Four Battles of Linjiang". In the territory, there are attractions such as Goguryeo King City.
In 2022, Tonghua City will realize a GDP of 59.09 billion yuan, an increase of 2.9% over the previous year.
