Miluo, a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Hunan Province, administered by Yueyang City, is located in northeastern Hunan Province, close to the eastern shore of Dongting Lake and the lower reaches of the Miluo River, with a high topography in the southeast and a low topography in the northwest, a subtropical monsoon climate, and four distinct seasons; it has a total area of 1,562 square kilometers. As of the end of 2022, Miluo City has 15 towns under its jurisdiction, with a household population of 659,363.
In February 1966, Miluo County was established.In September 1987, Miluo County was abolished and Miluo City was established at county level. Miluo City is known as Miluo River because of the Miluo River and Luo River, the downstream of which is known as Miluo River. Miluo City has the world-class intangible cultural heritage "Dragon Boat Festival Customs by Miluo River" and the national intangible cultural heritage "Changle Pavilion Storytelling", and is the "Famous City of Chinese Dragon Boat". It is the "Famous City of Chinese Dragon Boat" and the "Hometown of Chinese Poetry", and is regarded as "the source of Dragon Boat Festival, the hometown of Dragon Boat, and the original hometown of Poetry". Miluo River is the place where Qu Yuan, the famous patriotic poet and literati of Chu State during the Warring States Period, was martyred by throwing himself into the river. There are Qu Zi Ancestral Hall, Qu Yuan's Tomb and other monuments and buildings commemorating Qu Yuan, and there are Qu Zi Cultural Park, Qu Zi Academy and other tourist attractions. Miluo has well-developed transportation, with the Beijing-Guangzhou Railway, Beijing-Guangzhou High Speed Railway, 107 National Highway, 240 National Highway, Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Expressway and its duplicate line, 210 Provincial Highway running through the north and south, and Pingyi Expressway, 536 National Highway, 308 Provincial Highway running through the east and west.
In 2022, Miluo accomplished a GDP of 49.07 billion yuan, a year-on-year growth of 6.0%.
