Zhuzhou, anciently known as Jianning, is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Hunan Province, the core city of the ChangZhuTan City Cluster, and one of the cities of the city cluster in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, located in the eastern part of Hunan Province and the lower reaches of the Xiangjiang River; as of 2022, it has five districts and three counties under its jurisdiction, and is in charge of one county-level city, with a total area of 11,200 km2; and a resident population of 3,871,100 people.
Zhuzhou is one of the first eight key industrial cities built after the founding of New China, and is an old industrial base in China. It is an old industrial base of China. The Beijing-Guangzhou Railway and the Hukun Railway intersect here, making it an important "cross-shaped" railroad hub in China. On February 24, 2022, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) issued the "Reply Letter of the National Development and Reform Commission on Agreeing to the Development Plan of ChangZhuTan Metropolitan Circle Development and Reform Planning", officially approving the "Development Plan of ChangZhuTan Metropolitan Circle".2023, it was rated as a third-tier city.
In 2023, Zhuzhou's gross regional product was 366.788 billion yuan, an increase of 5.2%. Among them, the added value of primary industry was 27.620 billion yuan, up 3.5%; the added value of secondary industry was 161.386 billion yuan, up 5.0%; the added value of tertiary industry was 17.782 billion yuan, up 5.6%.
