Wugang City, county-level city under the jurisdiction of Hunan Province, administered by Shaoyang City, is located in east longitude 110°25′35″-111°01′58″, north latitude 26°32′42″-27°02′09″, is located in the southwestern part of Hunan Province, the eastern foothills of Xuefeng Mountain, the northern edge of the South Ridge, the upper reaches of Zishui, with a total area of 1,549 square kilometers. The terrain of the city is surrounded by mountains in the east, west and south, low and flat in the center, tilting from south to north, with a moderate climate in the mid-subtropical monsoon humid climate. As of 2021, Wugang City has 4 streets, 11 towns and 3 townships under its jurisdiction. As of the end of 2022, the resident population of Wugang City was 626,000 people.
As early as 5,000 years ago, in the Neolithic Age, there were ancestors living here. Since Han Gaozu "made the world county towns", Wugang has been feudalized and set up counties, prefectures and prefectures, and has a history of more than 2,200 years of city building. Qu Yuan, Tao Kan, Han Yu, Liu Zongyuan, Wang Anshi, Wen Tianxiang and many other famous artists have left behind splendid cultural treasures. There are Whampoa culture represented by the former site of the second branch of the Whampoa Military Academy, folk culture represented by the national intangible cultural heritage of Wugang Silk String, dietary culture represented by Wugang haloumi, and religious culture represented by Yunshan Shengli Temple.
In 2022, Wugang realized a GDP of 20038.3 million yuan, a year-on-year growth of 5.3% after deducting non-comparable factors.
