Dingcheng District, belongs to Changde City, Hunan Province. It is located in the north of Hunan Province, on the west shore of Dongting Lake and at the end of Yuan River. It is located between 28°35'-29°23'N latitude and 111°27′-112°11'E longitude. It is connected to Hanshou County in the east, Taoyuan County in the west, Taojiang County and Anhua County in Yiyang City in the south, Linli County and Jinshi City in the north, and Anxiang County in the northeast across the river. The total area of 2,340 square kilometers. 2022, Dingcheng District registered population of 734,000 people. As of June 2023, Dingcheng District has 5 streets, 17 towns and 1 township under its jurisdiction.
Dingcheng District, anciently known as Lanzhou, has been the county and state seat since the Qin Dynasty. In Qin Dynasty, Linyuan County was established. Han, divided into Suo County (Hanshou County). In the Song Dynasty, Taoyuan County was separated, and in 1949, Changde City (present-day Wuling District) was established; in April 1988, Changde County was renamed Dingcheng District.
