Chibi City was formerly known as Puqi, originating from the setting up of Puqi County in the Three Kingdoms of China and Wu, and was named after the market formed by the abundance of Puqi grass (the material used for weaving bushels in ancient times) in the lake.In May 1986, approved by the State Council, Puqi County was abolished to set up a city, and was administered by Xianning City, and in June 1998, its name was changed to Chibi City. Chibi city has a superior transportation location, convenient transportation, north of the provincial capital of Wuhan, south of the northern Hunan town of Yueyang City, known as "the southern gate of Hubei", an important part of the Wuhan City Circle.In November 2018, it was honored as the "2018 China's Happiness Hundred Counties List". .
