Gushi County, Henan Province, Xinyang City, Henan Province, directly administered county. It is located in the southeast end of Henan Province, at the junction of Henan and Anhui provinces, with Dabie Mountain in the south and Huaihe River in the north, covering a total area of 2,946 square kilometers. As of October 2022, Gushi County has 3 streets, 20 towns and 10 townships under its jurisdiction. As of the end of 2022, the resident population of Gushi County was 1,029,500 people.
Due to four large-scale population migrations to the south in history, Gushi County has become the starting and centralized place for migrants from the Central Plains to the area of Fujian and Taiwan, and is known as "the hometown of the Tang people, the ancestral land of Fujian and Taiwan" and "the first overseas Chinese township in the Central Plains", and has been regarded as "the first township of the Central Plains", "the first township of Central China", and "the first township of the Central Plains" since the ancient times. It is one of the five regional central cities identified by Henan Province for accelerated development and one of the ten pilot counties for reform of the provincial direct management system.On May 9, 2019, after a special assessment and inspection at the provincial level of Henan Province, Gushi County met the standards for poverty eradication and officially withdrew from the sequence of poverty-stricken counties.
