Pingxiang City, county-level city under the jurisdiction of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, administered by Chongzuo City, bordering a city and three counties in Vietnam (Lang Son City, Vinh Long County, Cao Loc County, Truong Dinh County), with a 97-kilometer-long border, known as the "South Gate of China". The city has a total area of 650 square kilometers. As of June 2023, Pingxiang City has 4 towns under its jurisdiction. According to the seventh population census, as of November 1, 2020, the resident population of Pingxiang City was 129,843 people. In November 2002, Pingxiang became a municipality directly under the central government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and in January 2003, it was placed under the administration of Chongzuo City. Pingxiang City from the capital of Guangxi Nanning and Vietnam's capital Hanoi are 160 kilometers (highway), southwest of the two sides of the border with Vietnam Langshan Province, the border is 97 kilometers long, within the territory of the Youyiguan port (highway) and Pingxiang port (railroad), two national first-class ports, a second-class ports, five border cross-border market is the largest number of ports in Guangxi, the most complete variety of the largest border port city. Pingxiang is the largest and most convenient land route from China to Vietnam and Southeast Asia.In June 1992, Pingxiang was approved by the State Council as a city open to the outside world along the border.In March 2019, Pingxiang was listed in the first batch of revolutionary cultural relics protection and utilization of piece of the county list.In August 2019, Pingxiang was included in the scope of Chongzuo piece of the China (Guangxi) Pilot Free Trade Zone.On October 9, 2020, Pingxiang was was awarded the title of the fourth batch of national ecological civilization construction demonstration cities and counties by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment. In 2022, Pingxiang City realized a regional GDP of 9.957 billion yuan, an increase of 5.1% over the previous year at comparable prices.
