Bama Yao Autonomous County, belonging to Hechi City of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, is located in the northwest of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, adjoining Lingyun County, Right River District, Tianyang District, Tandong County and Pingguo City of Baise City from west to south to north, and Dahua Yao Autonomous County, Donglan County and Fengshan County of this city. The county has a total area of 1,976.42 square kilometers, inhabited by 12 ethnic groups such as Yao, Zhuang, Han, etc. In 2012, the total population of Bama County is 270,000, and the built-up area of the county is 8 square kilometers. The terrain of Bama is high in the northwest and low in the southeast, with a lot of mountains and little land, known as "eight mountains, one water, one field", and precious land. According to the seventh population census, as of November 1, 2020, the resident population of Bama Yao Autonomous County was 236,152 people.
According to the second to fifth national census, Bama ranks first among the world's five longevity zones in terms of the proportion of people over 100 years old. Bama is known as the "Hometown of Longevity in the World and the Sacred Land of Chinese People". Bama is the "Hometown of Chinese Fragrant Pig", and in 2005, the Bama Fragrant Pig passed the National Geographical Indication Product Protection.
In 2022, Bama County realized a gross domestic product (GDP) of 9687.45 million yuan, an increase of 1.5% over the previous year at comparable prices.
In March 2019, it was ranked on the list of the first batch of counties in the area of protection and utilization of revolutionary cultural relics.On September 20, 2019, it was awarded the honorary title of national model greening unit.On May 9, 2020, it was approved by the People's Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region to withdraw from the sequence of poverty-stricken counties.In June 20, 2020, it was selected by the Central Committee of the State of Government According to Law to be on the list of the first batch of national demonstration areas and projects for construction of rule-of-law government.2020 On July 29, 2020, it was selected for the naming list of national sanitary townships (county towns) in the 2017-2019 cycle.In December 2020, it was named an advanced county for high-quality development in Guangxi in 2019 by the autonomous region.
In 2023, Bama Yao Autonomous County was named one of the top 100 counties in China in terms of sustainable development capacity of recreation industry in 2023.
