Baiyin City, also known as Copper City, is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Gansu Province, located in northwestern China, the upper reaches of the Yellow River, the central part of Gansu Province, and at the intersection of the four provinces of Shaanxi, Gansu, Ningxia, and Qingdao, with a total area of 21,200 square kilometers. As of April 2023, the city has two districts and three counties under its jurisdiction. As of the end of 2022, the resident population of Baiyin City was 1,521,000 people.
In June 1956, the city of Baiyin was established (county-level).In April 1958, it was upgraded from a county-level city to a prefecture-level city. Baiyin City is the core area of the Greater Lanzhou Economic Zone and the vice center of Lanbai Economic Circle, with unique geography and convenient transportation, which is not only an important part of "one core" in the province's "one nucleus and three belts", but also the ecological function of the upper reaches of the Yellow River in the "three belts". Yellow River Stone Forest 4A level scenic area is a national geopark, known as "China's natural wonders"; ShuiChuan Town, Yinchuan District, was selected as one of the second batch of key towns for national rural tourism, and Huining was listed as a national "red tourism city".
In 2023, the gross regional product of Baiyin City will be 67.23 billion yuan, an increase of 7% over the previous year.
