Yuancheng District, jurisdiction of Heyuan City, Guangdong Province, is the seat of the CPC Heyuan Municipal Committee and Municipal People's Government, as well as the political, economic and cultural center of Heyuan City. It is located in the northeastern part of Guangdong Province and the southern part of Heyuan City, at the confluence of the middle and upper reaches of the Dongjiang River and the Xinfeng River. It has a total area of 361.5 square kilometers.In October 2022, Yuancheng District was under the jurisdiction of six streets and two towns.In 2021, Yuancheng District had a resident population of 707,500 people and a total household population of 340,000 people.
Yuancheng District, is part of the former Heyuan County. The original Heyuan County from the South Qi Yongming yuan year (483 years) to 1988 has a history of more than 1,500 years. 1988 January, approved by the State Council abolished Heyuan County, the establishment of Heyuan City. The former Heyuan County was divided into Yuancheng District and Suburban District (later changed to Dongyuan County). Yuancheng District is the only municipal district and the political, economic and cultural center of the ancient Hakka town and the source of the Ten Thousand Green River.
In 2022, the gross regional product of Yuancheng District was 30.724 billion yuan, an increase of 1.0%. Among them, the added value of primary industry is 383 million yuan, with an increase of 3.2%; the added value of secondary industry is 9.052 billion yuan, with an increase of 0.4%; the added value of tertiary industry is 21.289 billion yuan, with an increase of 1.1%.
