Wuxi County is located in the northeastern part of Chongqing Municipality, at the southern foot of the eastern section of the Daba Mountains, and is a typical mountainous agricultural county. Located at the junction of Chongqing, Shaanxi and Hubei provinces, Wuxi County is connected to Shennongjia Forest District and Zhuxi County in Hubei Province in the east, Fengjie County and Wushan County in the south, Kaizhou District and Yunyang County in the west, and bordered by Chengkou County and Zhenping County in Shaanxi Province in the north. By 2017, Wuxi County had a total area of 4,030 square kilometers. By the end of 2022, Wuxi County had a resident population of 387,800. In 2022, Wuxi County realized a GDP of 123,876,000 yuan, an increase of 2.7% over the previous year.In 2021, Wuxi County realized a GDP of 120,832,900 yuan, an increase of 6.7% over the previous year. Wuxi County is a national model county for greening, and has won the "Green Chinese Medicine Export Base", "National Key Base County for Konjac Cultivation", and "Hometown of Green Ecological Potato in China", "2011 China Reform County of the Year", "2019 National Health County", "Hometown of International Roasted Fish" and other honorary titles. On February 8, 2023, Chongqing Municipal Bureau of Statistics announced the 2022 GDP and growth rate of the city's districts and counties. Wuxi County ranked 37th, with a GDP of 12.388 billion yuan, an increase of 2.7% over the previous year.
