Bishan District is a part of Chongqing Municipality, located in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, the western part of Chongqing Municipality, and the Chongqing metropolitan area. It was established in the second year of Tang Zhide, and was named after the white stone in the mountain, which is as bright and moist as a biscuit, and the county was abolished and set up as a district in 2014.
Bishan District has 6 streets and 9 towns under its jurisdiction, covering an area of 914.55 square kilometers. As of November 1, 2020, the resident population of the district was 756,022 (the seventh population census).
Bishan District has won the National Advanced County (City) for Scientific and Technological Progress, National Demonstration County for Soil and Water Conservation and Ecological Environment Construction, National Advanced County for Peaceful Construction, China Habitat Example Prize, National Scenic Water Conservancy Area, National Demonstration Area for Tax Payment Service, National Pilot Low Carbon Industrial Park, National Pilot Water Ecology Civilization City Construction, National Sanitation District, the second batch of counties (districts) reaching the standard of water-saving society construction, 2019 National Village Cleaning Action Advanced County and other honors.
In 2021, Bishan District completed a regional GDP of 87.454 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 10.4%.
In 2022, Bishan District's regional GDP will be 92.095 billion yuan, an increase of 3.6% over the previous year.
