Shapingba District is one of the main urban areas of Chongqing and one of the main urban metropolitan areas of Chongqing, located in the southwest of Chongqing. Shapingba District has a history of more than 3,000 years since it was a possession of the State of Ba in the Zhou Dynasty, and it is an important birthplace of the Red Rock Spirit by combining the culture of BaYu and Yu, ShaMagnet culture, anti-war culture, and red rock culture in one furnace; it is a scientific and educational cultural area of Chongqing, and the Chongqing University Town is located in the western part of Shapingba District. As of December 2020, Shapingba District has 21 streets and 5 towns under its jurisdiction; it covers an area of about 396 square kilometers, and realized a gross domestic product (GDP) of 105.83 billion yuan in 2021, an increase of 7.5% over the previous year at comparable prices. According to the seventh census data, as of 00:00 on November 1, 2020, Shapingba District has a resident population of 1447345 people. Shapingba District has been awarded the "National Model City of Double Embrace", "National Advanced County for Cultural Relics Work", "Advanced Collective for Municipal Flood Resistance and Disaster Relief Work", "First Batch of National Cultural Tourist Attractions", and "National Cultural Tourism Resort". In November 2020, Shapingba was selected as the sixth national civilized urban area.
