Taihu County, belonging to Anqing City, Anhui Province, is located between latitude 30°09'~30°46'N and longitude 115°45'~116°30'E. It is situated in the western part of Anhui Province, the southwestern part of Anqing City, and the southern foot of the Dabie Mountains, and is neighboring Qianshan City and Huaining County in the east, Wangjiang County in the south, Susong County in the southwest, and Herb Chun County and Yingshan County of Huanggang City, Hubei Province in the west, and is adjoining Yuesi County in the north, with a total area of 2,040 square kilometers. In 2022, Taihu County had a total household population of 572,746.
Taihu in the southern dynasty of Song Dynasty Emperor Wu (420) built the county, "too" in the ancient Chinese language is sometimes common with "Tai", "big", "Tai Hu In ancient Chinese, "Tai" was sometimes used in common with "Tai" and "Da", and "Taihu" means "big lake", therefore, Taihu County was named after the lake. According to the Nangi Zhi (南畿志), the name is derived from the presence of a large lake in its area. As of 2022, Taihu County has 10 towns and 5 townships under its jurisdiction, with the county government stationed at No. 1, Puxian Road, Jinxi Township.In 2020, Taihu County was selected as one of the "Second List of Districts for the Protection and Utilization of Revolutionary Cultural Relics", and was awarded the title of the Fourth Batch of National Ecological Civilization Construction Demonstration Municipalities and Counties by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment.
In 2022, the gross regional product of Taihu County will be 21.085 billion yuan, an increase of 3.8% over the previous year.
