Anqing City, Anhui Province, prefecture-level city, is located in the southwest of Anhui Province, the north bank of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, the northwestern part of the Dabie Mountains in the middle and lower mountainous areas, the southeastern part of the Yangtze River Chau Wei beach, the central hilly and undulating, between the low hills, lakes; belongs to the north subtropical humid climate zone, monsoon is obvious, four seasons are clear, the climate is humid; a total area of 13,589.99 square kilometers. As of October 2022, Anqing has 3 districts and 5 counties under its jurisdiction, with 2 county-level cities in its stead. As of the end of 2022, Anqing had a resident population of 4,156,000 people.
During the Eastern Zhou Dynasty, Anqing was the seat of the ancient state of Anhui, from which the abbreviation "Anhui" was derived. In the 17th year of Shaoxing (1147) of the Southern Song Dynasty, the Deqing Army of Shuzhou was changed to the Anqing Army of Shuzhou, from which the name "Anqing" was derived. Anqing is a national historical and cultural city, the cradle of the growth of Hui Ban, the originator of Peking Opera, and the hometown of Chen Duxiu, Deng Jiaxian, Zhang Henshui and other celebrities, and is also China's early acceptance of modern civilization of the city, the Qing Dynasty Xianfeng eleven years (1861), Tseng Kuo-fan founded Anqing within the Armoury, the manufacture of China's first steam engine and the first motorized ship. Ancient Anhui culture, Zen culture, theater culture and Tongcheng school culture are intertwined here, forming a unique regional culture. There are many red cultural sites, such as the former site of Yuexi Red 28th Army and the former residence of Wang Buwen. Tianzhu Mountain, characterized by majesty, wonder, spirit and beauty, is a national 5A scenic spot.
In 2023, the gross regional product of Anqing was 287.83 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 5.7% at constant prices.
