Ningqiang County, part of Hanzhong City, Shaanxi Province, is located in the western part of Hanzhong City, bordering Mianxian and Nanzheng counties to the east, Kangxian and Wudu districts in Gansu Province to the west, Chaotian District, Wangcang and Qingchuan counties in Sichuan Province to the south, and Lueyang County to the north, with an area of 3,260.34 square kilometers. As of October 2022, Ningqiang County has 2 streets and 16 towns under its jurisdiction.In 2021, Ningqiang County had a household population of 321,823 people.
Ningqiang County is known as the "First City on the Three Thousand Mile Han River". In the Xia Dynasty, it belonged to Liang Prefecture. During the Shang and Western Zhou dynasties, it was occupied by Qiang. In the 21st year of Ming Dynasty (1485), Ningqiang Prefecture was established. In the second year of the Republic of China (1913), Ningqiang Prefecture was changed to Ningqiang County. In the 24th year of the Republic of China (1935), the Red Army of the Fourth Front conquered Ningqiang and established two county-level soviet regimes in Ningqiang and Yangpingguan. In January, 1942, Ningqiang County was changed to Ningqiang County, and in November, 2015, Ningqiang County was awarded the "Hometown of Qiang Nuo Culture" by China Folk Literature and Artists Association.
In 2021, Ningqiang County's gross domestic product (GDP) was 12.499 billion yuan; per capita GDP was 49,132 yuan; and per capita disposable income was 22,158 yuan.
