Tongchuan District, part of Dazhou City, Sichuan Province, is located in northeastern Sichuan and central Dazhou City, bordering Xuanhan County to the northeast, Dachuan District to the southwest, and Pingchang County to the northwest. As of June 2021, Tongchuan District has 5 streets, 12 towns, and 1 township under its jurisdiction. It covers an area of 900 square kilometers. As of the end of 2021, Tongchuan District had a resident population of 910,000 people. Tongchuan District was abolished as a city and set up as a district in 1999, and has been the seat of the state and the capital, and is the political, economic and cultural center of Dazhou City. Municipal Party Committee, municipal government, municipal people's Congress, the Municipal People's Congress, the four major groups and major administrative departments are located in Tongchuan, "the heart of Dazhou"; Xiangyu Railway, reached the railroad, Dawan Railway, and Danyu, Dashaan, Dawan, Bada four highways, is the northeast Sichuan transportation hub and Sichuan, Chongqing, Shaanxi material distribution center, known as the "gateway to northeast Sichuan". Tongchuan District is a national advanced district for scientific and technological progress, a national model urban area for harmonious community construction, a national demonstration base for agricultural products processing industry, an advanced district for peace building, an advanced district for hilly areas, and a rural tourism demonstration area.In April 2020, it was named as an advanced county for the implementation of the Rural Revitalization Strategy of Sichuan Province for the year of 2019.In October 2022, it was selected as a model county for the National Rural Revitalization in 2022.In November 2023 In November 2023, it was listed in the first batch of national county business "leading counties" list. In 2021, Tongchuan District will realize a gross domestic product (GDP) of 37.14 billion yuan.
