Xinyu City, also known as Steel City, prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Jiangxi Province, an important member of the city cluster in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, is located in the central west of Jiangxi Province, east of Zhangshu City, Xinguan County, west of Yichun City, Yuanzhou District, south of Jiyan County, Anfu County, xiajiang County, north of Shanggao County, Ga'an City. It is located between 27°33′~28°05′ north latitude and 114°29′~115°24′ east longitude, with 6 types of basic landforms, including low mountains, high hills, low hills, hillocks, terraces, and plains; the climate is subtropical and humid, and the Yuanhe River is the main river flowing through Xinyu City; it has a total area of 3,178 square kilometers; it is the smallest city in the province in terms of area. As of the end of 2023, Xinyu had a resident population of 1,198,500 people. As of June 2023, Xinyu City has one district and one county under its jurisdiction; the municipal government is located in Yushui District.
